The
architect of the local residences south of Yangtze
River seems to be a stream of duplications of the
"ancient narrow alleyways": lanes leading to
lanes, lane-type water routes linking lane-type water
routes and stone bridges after small bridges. They are
the core composition of these ancient villages,
ancient towns and ancient cities south of Yangtze
River. The stone bridge is a community link between
the households along the banks with the water route
like a human artery and its flowing water like the
blood circulating inside each of these households.
Because of this, the residences in the south of
Yangtze River are characterized by their vigorous life
and activities. Nevertheless, the glorious history of
those ancient cities (villages and towns as well) and
the joy and sorrow from reunion or separation of each
family are preserved deep in these alleyways……
